The Center for Career and Professional Development's Welcome Back Block Party was packed with students, alumni and employers.

Elbow room was scarce on the second floor of Adelphi University’s Ruth S. Harley University Center on Wednesday, September 7, as hundreds poured in for the Welcome Back Block Party. The annual career fair hosted by the Center for Career and Professional Development featured representatives from about 90 on and off-campus employers.

Apple Inc., Bloomingdale’s, Michael Kors, the Peace Corps, Robert Half International Inc. and the Visiting Nurse Service of New York were just a few of the corporations and nonprofits that sent representatives. Adelphi staff also came to recruit for a wide variety of on-campus jobs and to provide information about community internships and volunteer opportunities. Some employers offered on-the-spot interviews.

A professional photographer was on hand to take head shots for students and alumni to use for their LinkedIn profiles.

Adam Katz, a staffing manager at Robert Half’s Office Team, said that Adelphi students stand apart because they have “good follow-up skills and are excited of get the ball rolling.”

Thomas J. Ward, Jr. ’93, executive director of the Center for Career and Professional Development, echoed Katz, noting that employers have been “impressed” by how well Adelphi students “can bridge what they learn from class to the work force.”

Sheila O’ Sullivan, a junior psychology major, praised the event and the support she has received from Adelphi’s career center. She finds that the center’s staff members are “always willing to help you with your résumé and finding a job in your field.”
