Adelphi University Libraries offers Kanopy, a streaming video platform that covers documentaries and educational and popular films for all students, staff and faculty.

Did you know that you can stream award-winning films like Colette (2018), Room (2015) and Anthropocene: The Human Epoch (2018) without a Netflix or Hulu account?

Adelphi University Libraries offers Kanopy, a streaming video platform that covers documentaries and educational and popular films, including classic and foreign films, the arts, business, health sciences, media and communication, the natural sciences, the social sciences, and teacher education. Kanopy can be accessed from on or off campus by all students, staff and faculty at Adelphi.

Sandra Urban, assistant professor and acquisition strategies and acting collection strategies librarian, said Adelphi University Libraries encourages members of the Adelphi community to take advantage of this service and choose from the variety of licensed films and genres. “The library currently has hundreds of licensed Kanopy films that can be viewed immediately by anyone in the Adelphi community,” said Urban.

The classroom staple streaming service “has become very popular since the library first licensed with them in Fall 2016,” she said, adding, “The primary purpose of Kanopy is for faculty to choose streaming titles for use in their classes.”

Faculty are encouraged to fill out the streaming media request form for any streaming title they plan to use in class or for educational purposes. The library will then work to make sure the film is licensed in time for the assignment and/or that a currently licensed title is not about to expire.
