Psychologists held around 174,000 jobs in 2014, the last year for which data are available. Employment of political scientists is projected to grow 19 percent from 2014 to 2024.

Demand for clinical and counseling psychologists will increase as people continue to turn to psychologists for assistance with their problems. Psychologists will also be needed to provide services to an aging population, helping them deal with the mental and physical changes that happen as they grow older.

In addition, employment of school psychologists will rise in connection with awareness about the need for mental health services in schools, particularly for students with special needs, learning disabilities and behavioral issues.
